Great work again Ben - top man :-) and many thanks for the answers once again. Fab to see those pieces on Brophy and Diggers - great insight and context for both players and their roles in the team.
Brophy/Diggers/Smith putting in some great work at the moment.
Really interesting to see the comparison of where most League One goals are scored from and the spaces that Broph's occupies - that piece really did build a great picture. Thank you :-)
How about this for developing a theme:
You put in some really interesting commentary around playing style/being more direct/field tilt. From this sort of analysis are you able to determine teams in League One playing styles? For example: Identify teams that are playing out from the back/possession based as opposed to more direct? Expecting teams with higher budgets to adopt this style. With this also in mind, how much success are teams having with this playing style in League One?
For example: I would expect Wigan to come out as a possession-based team. Though throughout that game our high press turned them over on a regular basis.
Variation on the above theme: How many goals in League One are scored where 3/4/5 or more passes have been made that result in either; a goal, a goal-scoring opportunity, or no goal-scoring opportunity - but in the opponent's half. Regardless of whether a goal is scored or not these are the moments that excite the crowd. Probs more often than not a counter attack - can you identify those?
Great questions! I was already planning on putting a playing style chart in the next edition and sharing a couple others teams’ too… and this will compare to teams across the world, we can see possession, circulation around the back, low block, crossing tendency etc. I think this will help a lot there
Ill also see if I can get on your second part. I have stuff already to see the success rate of team’s buildups (getting into opponents half or opponent third) and possession length. I’ll see what I can do to connect them and give more insight into the style!
One metric that would be interesting to look at is some of the more physical aspects of the game. I get the sense Diggers could run and run and run and run. Is there a way to look at the distanced covered on the pitch?
Are certain players scoring more when they're running more vs running less?
Presumably Wingbacks are covering loads of ground so are less likely to produce assists than wingers?
Cavaet with I am not a stats person, I know very little about tactics of football, just know how to shout loud. Love the work.

This is just always so so so good.

Thank you! Yeah there is physical data out there, but the downside is it’s not available to most people because it’s so expensive :(
I don’t have anything on distance, speed, etc sadly!
Well, well, well. Think that's called Karma :-) Brophy Avalanche incoming :-) Off to check the odds on a hatrick in the next league game . . . . . :-)
