Wycombe (A) Match Preview
Oh joy, it's a trip to Wycombe up next, a team we always seem to perform so well against... just what's needed to help us stop this awful run of form we're on at the moment.
Yep, that's right, Gareth Ainsworth's bastard Wycombe side are waiting to welcome us with open arms, as Mark Bonner tries to instil some of the faith back into his injury-hit side. Who's gonna start, and in what position is basically anyone's guess at the moment but we suspect it won't be too different than the side that started against Port Vale with a few changes. Greg Taylor went off at half time after suffering a knock to the head, so Zeno Ibsen Rossi is a "taylor-made" replacement at the back, in the middle we'd like to see Lewis Simper slot in for Liam O'Neil, and Sam Smith's poor run of form allows us the chance to see Fejiri Okenabirhie starting up front. Otherwise it's as you were.
Expected U's Line-Up: Mannion, Williams, Okedina, Jones, Rossi, Brophy, Digby, Simper, Lankester, Okenabirhie, Ironside
Who's In The Dugout: John Beck alumni Gareth Ainsworth - he's been there years, he plays horrible football no doubt influenced by his time at the Abbey as a player. We know what he's about.
Who's Their Player to Watch? Striker Sam Vokes is a former Welsh international with almost 100 games in the Premier League for Wolves and Burnley under his belt.
What's Their Recent Form Like? Three wins on the trot, but they'd lost two in a row before that.
Any Ex-United Players? Sullay Kaikai is a Sierra Leonean international who played 30 games for United under Richard Money in our first season back in the League.
Last Time Out: United 1-Wycombe 4, April 5 2022.
A pretty miserable Tuesday evening at the Abbey as Wycombe tore us apart last season
A Matchday Album to Listen To: Venetian Snares - Meathole
What's the aural equivalent of a trip to Adams Park? Probably something like this, almost an hour of barely-listenable furiously chopped jungle and noise from Canadian musician Venetian Snares.
From The Archive: United 2-1 Wycombe, March 19 2005
Wins against Wycombe are pretty rare, this one took place back in 2005 in front of a bumper 'Fans United' crowd as Cambridge slid out of the League. Goals came from the disgraced Tes Bramble and former Norwich legend Iwan Roberts.
