UTAS Book Review: A Big Emotion
The latest edition of the late Andrew Bennett's detailed history of the Club is now available from publishers 100 Years of Coconuts. Covering the period between 1992-2005 it sees United dispose with, and then re-hire John Beck, fall from the first to the third division, rise back up to the second, before plummeting out of the league totally.
Along the way they sign the likes of Dave Kitson, Omar Riza, Ian Ashbee and John Taylor, along with a whole host of less-successful players, many of which had been forgotten by this reviewer. Covering the unforgettable 1998-99 season, as well as the Cup Run to the LDV Vans Trophy Final in 2002 the book features some great highs, but ends on a dour note as United, in administration get relegated to the Conference.
With some fantastic behind-the-scenes anecdotes, classic images and a comprehensive stats section this book is a must-buy, especially for fans who followed United through this rollercoaster era.
A Big Emotion is priced at £26.99 including postage and is available from Coconuts online.
