U's 3-2 Wigan: 15th August 2026
The report from the Abbey on United's opening day victory
“We’re playing against better players, not only from the first minute but they’re going to be introduced to the pitch as well. If we take our foot off the gas, or I’ve got players in my changing room that can’t do it for 90 minutes, then they’ll just have to leave the football club.”
You would think that Neil Harris was speaking after a Cambridge United defeat, or that this was a quote soon after his return to the club in 2025 with the squad on the verge of relegation and in need of upheaval.
Instead his words came on Saturday, when United had marked their return to League One with a deserved and largely impressive victory over Wigan, albeit one which ended nervously after a comprehensive 3-0 lead became a slenderer 3-2 advantage.
