U's 2-1 Bracknell Town (FAC R1): Magic of The Cup...
United got their FA Cup campaign off to a winning start, despatching a hard-fighting Bracknell Town at the Abbey. Bonner made a handful of changes to the side, but still put out a strong XI, showing how seriously we're taking the cup this year.
Sadly this came at the expense of a couple of potential injuries to players only a week before the derby, Morro and goalscorer Okenabirhie going off as a precaution, whilst Cousins seemed to have picked up a more serious knock. We've got a meaningless FA Trophy game against Spurs U21's midweek, and if anyone even remotely near the first team plays in that then management need to be having serious words with themselves.
The game wasn't exactly a classic - United played well for the first seventy or so minutes and Okenabirhie scored yet another goal, a nicely taken finish in front of the NRE - and in the first half to boot! Our second came from a soft own goal from a Bracknell defender - it's about time we got some of that luck on our side.
So we're into the second round where Fleetwood come to the Abbey. We've had some great draws in the cup over the past decade, so hopefully we can progress past them and into the third round.
