Cambridge United fell to their first League One defeat of the season on Saturday and people went home feeling very angry.
Those emotions were mostly directed at referee Harrison Blair, who awarded Huddersfield the penalty from which Joe Taylor netted the visitors’ winner a minute from the end. Neil Harris was diplomatic about the decision and directed his ire towards his own players for failing to win having gone ahead late on, saying “I’d go so far as saying it’s unprofessional by players, and senior players in particular.”
The fact that the equaliser was so frustrating and the winning goal so contentious is much more preferable to reflecting on United being beaten because they weren’t good enough. The last time Huddersfield visited the Abbey was under two years ago and they coasted to a startlingly straightforward 4-0 success. On this occasion fans should feel hard done by.
