The perfect Saturday lunchtime

It would be tempting to say that nobody could question the fact that Cambridge United were fully deserving victors against Salford City on Saturday, were it not for the baffling comments of visiting boss Karl Robinson.

He said that following the only goal “there was only one team that I felt was going to get anything in the game. We looked a real imposing threat when we made the changes. I don’t think it was there to lose it. I think a draw would have been a fair result against a very, very good Cambridge team.”

He appeared to be neither taking the piss nor actually pissed.

On another day United might have been punished for only being 1-0 up having dominated (sounds familiar), Jake Eastwood making a vital save to deny Ryan Graydon with 11 minutes left, but a fairer reflection of the game would have seen the points wrapped up by that stage.
