The narrative for Tuesday evening had been arranged since the moment the second round draw was made, Millwall pitted against the side coached by their all-time record goalscorer in the EFL Cup.

Unless somebody scored a hatful, or Cambridge United won and then pulled out a headline round three fixture, how Neil Harris got on against the side he both played for and managed with such success was always going to be the thing which dominated the column inches surrounding the tie.

That was, unless the U’s suffered another injury or two to add to those already sustained this season. And that is exactly what came to pass. Ten minutes into the second half, Patrick Bauer knocked the ball into touch and immediately signalled that he needed to be withdrawn. Harris confirmed afterwards that it was a hamstring problem.
