United 1-1 Colchester: 17th February 2026
Can't win 'em all
Cambridge United have become accustomed to winning this season, especially at the Abbey, but there have been a few times where a point rather than three could be gratefully accepted. Holding on against Barnet was one in the autumn. Tuesday night’s draw against Colchester proved another.
It was hardly a bad performance, albeit one that didn’t hit the heights of impressive recent wins over Crawley and Bristol Rovers. Given the way the evening went it was certainly not a result to be overly disappointed by.
Fans would swap the entertainment for three points, but they did witness one of the best football matches of the U’s season.
After a bright opening they didn’t cave under extended pressure from a Colchester side who will still eye up a top seven spot. It was arguably the best performance any team have produced against Cambridge in 2025-26 so far and it still wasn’t enough to inflict a first Abbey league defeat since September.
