Summer Round-Up: Pre-Season Friendlies
We've been quiet here at UTAS over the summer, but it's been busy over at the Abbey. We take a look at what's been going on. Next: Friendly Games
United have taken to the field three times so far this pre-season, and fans are getting their chance to see the squad in person at the Abbey for the first time this coming Saturday as Ipswich Town come to Cambridge.
We kicked off pre-season at the traditional training camp in South Wales, drawing 1-1 against Cardiff, new signing Gassan Ahadme scoring late in the game to salvage the draw.
This was followed by another 1-1 draw, behind closed doors against Tottenham, but details of the game are thin on the ground, although it's understood a number of Spurs first team players took part.
U's fans finally got to see the players in the flesh on Saturday at St Albans, where we ran out 3-1 winners. A strong U's side lined up in the first half, and it's probably not too far from what will take the field against Oxford in August.
Who else but Harrison Dunk put the U's 1-0 up, before a St Albans triallist levelled things up 10 minutes before the break. United started the same side in the second half, before playing the last thirty minutes with a second-string side including a number of youth prospects. Young striker Brandon Njoku put the U's ahead with 10 to go, before Saikou Janneh finished the game a couple of minutes later.
Ipswich visit on Saturday, before United travel to Gillingham on Tuesday and finishing pre-season at Barnet on the 29th.
