Seven years might feel like déjà vu, but our future is more secure than ever
The first ever episode of UTAS was released a few days after Shaun Derry had left the club in February 2018. United were 14th in League Two, it felt like every second result was a 0-0 draw and there were rumblings of stadium redevelopment plans being held up.
Roll forward to 2025 and the U’s are midtable in League Two, goalless outcomes have already made several appearances and there was the big news last week that the club was shelving plans to redevelop the Abbey indefinitely.
You might be forgiven for asking, what has actually changed in seven years?
There have been whispers of comparison in the last few weeks, mostly around league position and the style of play in which points are accumulated, and given the ground news it would be easy for people to start thinking it would be justified to ask if Cambridge United were any better off today than they were in the Derry days or even when they returned to the Football League over a decade ago.
