Three key takeaways before Newport at home

Welcome to the first written match preview of 2025/26. Yes, we appreciate we’re five games in already. But before August is fully behind us, we thought we’d try something new.

A few weeks ago, Ben put together the first in the series of League 2 Stat Pack’s, looking at the data of our competitors around the league and seeing how United stacked up. At the end he included a little data-led match preview of the Bristol Rovers game. But reading over it, we thought it was so useful it deserved it’s own place.

So from now on, every Friday (or Monday if it’s a Tuesday league game) we’re going to try give you a little statistical insight into the next game. Treat it like a quick 5-minute cheat sheet to read while you’re on the toilet on a Saturday morning before heading to the Abbey. It’ll aim to highlight the key statistics of each team to give you little windows of insight to look out for when you’re watching the game.

It’ll be written in a simple style: an image or graph of the data, and a few bullet points explaining what’s going on, with three conclusions at the end of the article to summarise the key watch outs. Let us know what you think in the comments and we can expand on or finesse these pieces as the weeks go by.
