Once more unto the breach, dear friends. Or, as Steven Gerrard more eloquently put it: we go again.
It’s been a packed few weeks. Two midweek games, two trips to South Yorkshire, and five points to show for it. A trip to East London on Saturday will be the 5th game in two weeks and the latest test of United’s unbeaten away record. It will also mark the start of a short break in league action: due to the Luton postponement, after the Bristol Rovers FA Cup tie next week it’ll be Stockport at home on the 21st of November before the U’s are back in action in League One.
That makes Saturday, quietly, quite a big game. On the one hand, U’s have again avoided losing back-to-back games, meaning it’s now well over a season since that last happened, and have shown an enviable spirit and resilience to pick up points in challenging circumstances. They also remain the only side in the third tier yet to lose a game on their travels, and with a sold out away end for the next two league aways at Orient and then Posh, U’s fans are begging that that particular record can continue unscathed.
But on the other, a winless Saturday would make it 4 games without picking up three points, and a long time before the chance to put that right – with that chance then coming against Stockport, one of the league’s best sides. So strap in for a hopefully not too scary Saturday, and find out more about what we’re up against with our usual match preview and key stats to look out for below.
