It’s been over a month since Cambridge United last signed an outfield player. But not quite as long since their last signing of any sort. Because in that time we’ve added young goalkeeper Gabe Breeze to the ranks, supplementing a goalkeeping unit that currently has four members in it. Only two less than the whole defensive unit, for one spot – but speaking too much of squad numbers will (hopefully) be out of date very quickly given the pressing nature of the work we still need to do this week.

None of this is to say that the keeper in question that has joined United is a bad signing. Gabe Breeze joins on a permanent three-year-deal, and is a continued sign of a new transfer strategy that looks beyond this season and into the mid-to-long term future. To get you up to speed, we’ve compiled a bit of info on Breeze, including a quick look at his data and the view from a Carlisle fan.

If you want a deeper look at the topic of United’s recruitment strategy, check out Matt’s piece for the Cambridge Independent from a few weeks ago.
