Exeter (H) Match Preview
We return to Abbey action tomorrow when in-form Exeter visit town. They're scoring freely at the moment, but we've been playing pretty well ourselves. How's it going to pan out?
Expected U's Line-Up: We're not really expecting many (if any) changes from the side that narrowly lost to Oxford, so that means Mitov between the sticks, Jubs and Jones in the middle flanked by Lt. Williams and Dunk, who's aging like a fine wine at the moment. In the middle Digby & May will support Brophy, Knibbs & Smith, with Big Joe restored to his position up front.
Mitov, Williams, Okedina, Jones, Dunk, Digby, May, Smith, Knibbs, Brophy, Ironside.
Who's In The Dugout? Another young manager, 40 year old Matt Taylor played for the Grecians between 2007-2011, and was appointed as manager back in 2018. He led Exeter out of League Two last season after missing out in the Playoffs back in 2020.
Who's Their Player To Watch? They've got a few, but we'll have our eyes on Sam Nombe, who scored twice in their 7-0 defeat of Cheltenham in midweek.
What's Their Recent Form Like? They've played twice already this season, scoring about thirty goals (okay, eleven) and conceding just the one. Nothing to worry about then...
Any Ex-United Players? Twitter enigma Jevani Brown finally gets his chance at a higher level. Described on the latest episode of the UTAS Podcast as having "Championship feet but a Non-League brain" Brown spent two seasons at the Abbey, making 95 appearances and scoring 14 goals, but is probably best remembered for his pathetic attempt at a Panenka penalty against Tottenham whilst at Colchester.
Last Time Out: U's 2-1 Exeter 4th December 2021
A slightly fortuitous Harvey Knibbs goal put the U's into the third round in our last encounter, can anyone remember what happened next?
UTAS Versus: Where we predict the outcome of the match against a special guest. 1 point for the correct outcome, 3 points for the correct score. This week it’s David Earl from the My New Football Club podcast.
UTAS 2-0 United
David: 10-0 Exeter
TOTAL: UTAS 1, Guests 1
A Matchday Album To Listen To: Devon hasn't given us much in the way of decent music (Muse are terrible, I don't care what you think), so we're going into the neighbouring county of Cornwall for this weeks album from electronic madman Aphex Twin. Drukqs was the musicians fifth album, released way back in 2001 and features some of his most stunning tracks, combining scattered breaks and warped vocals with prepared pianos and God-knows-what-else...
From The Archive: U's 0-1 Exeter, 18th May 2008
We can't use that footage of Steve Butler bagging five against them again, so we've gone with eight minutes of pure heartbreak here as a lacklustre U's side fail to get promoted from the Conference for the first time
