Contracts Update
Over the past few weeks news has been filtering out of the club regarding contracts for the 2023/24 season, here's what we know so far.
Harrison Dunk has signed on for his thirteenth season at the Abbey, making him the sixth longest-serving EFL player at any one club. Harrison had a fantastic end to the season, scoring three goals during the run in, against Forest Green, Accrington and most importantly our first against P*sh in over twenty years. There's a real chance he could become our all time appearance maker record holder in the next season or two, so everyone is naturally delighted he's extended his stay.
George Thomas suffered a difficult start to his time in CB5, joining in the January transfer window whilst injured, and then picking up another injury which restricted him to only a handful of appearances, although he managed to score an important goal against Accrington which helped us stay up at their expense. Thomas is a talented midfielder with experience of playing in the Championship, and from what we've seen so far looks like he'll be a real asset to the squad.
Another player who suffered an injury-hit 2022/23 was Fejiri Okenabirhie. He's previously hit double-figures twice at this level, so can hopefully replace the goals that Sam Smith provided last season. Again we didn't see too much of him last year, but he has shown promise, and looks like a useful addition to the side.
Contract offers are still in the hands of Paul Digby and Ryan Bennett, with neither having put pen to paper yet. Bennett has been heavily linked with a return to his hometown club Grimsby, but United remain hopeful of retaining his services.
