It was only four months ago that Cambridge United last made the journey to Hayes Lane, down in deepest South London on the Kent border. Back in April, it was a fixture of genuine significance. A Bromley win would’ve promoted them to the third tier for the first time in their history, and a United one would’ve announced Harris’ team as a genuine player in the League Two title race.
As it was, the match ended in a stalemate. United couldn’t make their first half dominance count and struggled to put away the chances they created. The second half allowed Bromley into the game more, but the U’s stood strong to withstand their physical pressure and take a point back to Cambridgeshire.
Fast forward from April to August, and it was a case of deja vu. This time United managed to find the net from a sublime goal from Ben Knight, and couldn’t quite withstand Bromley’s aerial assault in conceding a late equaliser, but the spoils were still shared and it was hard to avoid that age-old question: was it a point gained, or two dropped?
