Barnet 1-0 U's: 28th March 2026
Horror at the Hive
Barnet is a place with few redeeming features, and Saturday saw Cambridge United put in a performance commensurate with their surroundings, losing 1-0 and dropping out of League Two’s automatic promotion places for the first time since the end of January.
In a game dominated by strong winds and largely devoid of incident, the home side produced the only two moments of real quality; skipper Danny Collinge’s smartly taken goal in the 49th minute and a late save from goalkeeper Cieran Slicker to deny Glenn McConnell what would’ve been an undeserved equaliser for United.
The U’s were shaky at the back, insipid in attack, and anonymous in midfield, with Dom Ball and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, so often a source of strength for the team in recent weeks, failing to assert their dominance in conditions that appeared tailor-made for their physicality. Too often, long balls either found touch, or flew straight through to Slicker, and on the few occasions we did try and play our way through the Barnet defence, we were crowded out before we got near the box.
