Accrington (H) Match Preview
Mark Bonner's U's get another chance to break their goalscoring hoodoo on Saturday as Accrington come to visit the Abbey. It's far too early (and dramatic) to describe this as a six-pointer, but the importance of the game shouldn't be in doubt as it's one of those that United should be looking to gain maximum points from.
Injuries still stalk the Abbey, with a number of long-term injuries we know about (May, Dimi, Haunstrup, Okenabirhie, O'Neil) plus those players on the fringes of fitness (Dunk, Simper Rossi, the rest of them that played 120 fruitless minutes on Tuesday). This has manifested itself in recent weeks with the inclusion of youth team players on the bench, and United not having much in the way of options to change the game plan.
Expected U's Line-Up: Mannion, Williams, Jones, Okedina, Dunk, Digby, Worman, Brophy, Smith, Knibbs, Ironside
Who's In The Dugout? John Coleman. He's been there forever (well, since 2014) and is currently the third-longest serving manager in English football
Who's Their Player to Watch? The goals are coming from Shaun Whalley and Harvey Rodgers at the moment.
What's Their Recent Form Like? Lost four & drawn one of the last five.
Any Ex-United Players? Matt Lowe was on our books as a youngster but never made a competitive appearance for the U's
Last Time Out: United 2-0 Accrington, 19 February 2022
Goals, eh? Remember them? Here's Sam Smith and Wes Hoolahan with a couple for the U's.
A Matchday Album to Listen To: Actress - Dummy Corporation
A lot housier than his usual fare - this is the best thing he's done since RIP all those years ago.
From The Archive: Accrington 1-1 U's, 2 April 2016
Max Clark! Zeli Ismail! Ryan Ledson! Some ginger fella called Haynes at left-back (nah, us neither)! A star-studded United team took a point home from Accrington back in 2016 thanks to a Jimmy Spencer goal.
